Cascade Designs was founded 30 years ago by two ex-Boeing engineers driven by their desire for comfort. Comfort in this case took the form of a self-inflating camping mattress, suitable for sleeping on all terrain and in all weathers. They called it the Therm-a-Rest, a brand which is now synonymous with high quality comfort worldwide.

In 1995 Cascade Designs Ltd in Cork, Ireland created an Aviation Department which developed a range of seating products under the brand name Jetrest, using this Therm-a-Rest self inflating technology and based on this comfort moto.

In 1997 the same Aviation department developed a custom designed self inflating Skylounger mattress for the private jet industry again using the Therm-a-Rest self inflating technology. This is a full comfort lie flat product to convert berthed seats to a level bed and still be lightweight and stowable.
